Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Social media has become a pivotal tool for mobilizing and organizing protests globally. In Nigeria, the EndBadGovernance protests of 2024 showcased how digital platforms can influence and facilitate mass movements. This case study focuses on the role of social media in the EndBadGovernance protest, specifically among students at the University of Lagos, a significant demographic in the protest movement. Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have transformed how information is disseminated and how people organize and participate in protests.
